Landers Colony Members Sumart Their Families on Acre
William F. Smyth of San Diego praised a San Diego area colony near California for supporting a family on one acre. He told the National Irrigation congress that the settlers, the “Landers,” show that a self sufficient lifestyle is possible with minimal land and effort. The speaker described the new man as an artist of the soil, independent and inventive, shaping new paths for himself and embracing simple rural life.
