Two Deaths in First Ward From Distant Distress and Consumption

December 18 report lists Sarah Jane McFarland aged 2 in the First ward dying of suffocation caused by distension of the stomach and Carmen Hernandez aged 40 in the First ward dying from hemorrhage of the lungs due to consumption.

Walter Scott Wins Sidewalk Contract for Acequia to Romana

Veteran contractor Walter Scott is awarded the block sidewalk project along the west side of Acequia street to Romana street, continuing pavement in front of the High School. The work runs along Mesquite block and extends the existing sidewalk line.

Spanish Dramatic Company Stages L Hereu at the Casino

The Spanish Dramatic company presented L Hereu to a slim audience at the Casino last evening. Sra Cejudo and Tocano are pleasing actresses, with the rest meritorious in their renditions especially Senor Baladia. The company performs again at Turner hall tomorrow evening.

The benefit program for orphans at Turner Hall was halted after Miss Braden fell ill before the drama. After the overture, Mr. Charles Ogden announced the postponement to an early date, and the audience dispersed.

Cloak Theft Reported at Newman Co doorway

A white man named Dave Ryan attempted to steal a woman's cloak valued at 645 dollars from Newman Co.'s doorway last night around seven. Clerk Ed Sachs pursued. Ryan threw the cloak into Blum & Koenigsberger's doorway, fled down Commerce Street, jumped a fence on Casino Street, and hid among wagons. Officer Ryman located him and took him to the bat cave. He reportedly lives near Sunset depot with a destitute wife and two children.
