Archbishop Attacks Farah Manufacturing Boycott Backed
Archbishop Feanels J. Furey defended a Catholic bishops' boycott of Farah Manufacturing Co products amid calls for social justice for workers. He criticized Willie Farah's speech to a San Antonio civic club and said the bishops would not be swayed by the company or public forums. The bishops unanimously supported the boycott citing lack of wage and benefit disclosures and a failure to negotiate with the union. Furey charged Farah with trying to divide the Mexican American community and urged maintaining worker jobs while aiming to put Farah out of business.
