With one day remaining the fund stands about 315000 short of the 850000 goal at noon as several committees report only morning results. The Geo Saur led group reported 1000. Memphis Detectives Nab Pistol Quel Gang After House Raid

City Council Investigates Canal Cutting River Bend

City officials consider the unauthorized canal dug by Lafay ette Ward across Bowen's Island to divert the San Antonio river. The 200 foot north south cut would straighten the river by about 600 feet, raising the island area. Ward claims rights to alter his own property with support from Woodward and Altgelt. The attorney general was asked to determine the city position as dirt from the cut piles up on the tract.

Union Pacific awards $2000 to conductor for capture

A $2000 check was mailed from Union Pacific headquarters to Conductor H. M. Smith. Two months earlier he tracked down robber William Loundsberry after a Union Pacific mail car robbery between Kansas City and Lawrence. Loundsberry had been a clerk who boarded a train car and bought a berth before Smith located him.
