Russians Press Toward Budapest in Fierce Danube Drive
Soviet forces under Marshal Tobulkhine pushed to within 15 miles of Budapest as the Third Ukrainian army widened its Danube flank. German resistance stiffened near Seeskefervar while redoubled partisan activity and Yugoslav units prepared for further Teutonic setbacks. German divisions shifted to counter the Russian thrust and suffered heavy losses in probes along the Narew and Baltic fronts.
