Paris dispatch reports French forces repulsed a German patrol near Wissembourg using automatic fire and artillery. German infantry engaged near Bitche and Bitackes region west of the Vosges, with heavy trench mortar use observed.
In Oslo the foreign ministers of Sweden Denmark and Norway gathered to discuss non military support for Finland amid the Russian Finnish war. Richard Sandler Den mark Peter Munch Denmark and Halvdan Koht Norway cited anxiety for themselves and Finland while weighing safeguards and aid avenues. Aften Posten editorial urged U S assistance with planes munitions and volunteers.
War bulletin from 25 years ago notes Turkish claim that a Russian expedition was ambushed and wiped out near Batym port on the Mack selt, while French progress in Ar gonne and British advances in west Flanders push toward Staden. Montenegro's King Nicholas reports heavy losses among the Kisanay, with about one third of 36,000 fallen in battle.
Rome reports indicate Italy will back Pope Pius XII in Europe peace efforts as new Italian ambassador to the Holy See, Alfieri, presented credentials and held a private audience with the pope. The Associated Press reports a sharp front battle on the western line with French and British efforts ongoing as German air raids and sea actions continue. Finland receives outside help including 230 Finnish Americans, British planes, and Italian support while Dutch neutrality and Japan US diplomacy darken the broader war outlook.
Senator Arthur Gapper Republican KansasRad announced he will oppose the reciprocal trade agreements act in the next session. Speaking at the American Farm Bureau event he argued treaties boost supply of farm products but AAA forecasts lower prices. He urged submitting existing pacts to the Senate and terminating those not in American interest with six months notice.
