Haig testifies on Watergate tapes plan to dismantle system

Gen. Alexander Haig described ordering the dismantling of a White House tape system last July with Nixon's later approval. He said the action followed Butterfield's disclosure and that Haldeman was later allowed to listen to tapes, prompting Haig to restrain custody and inform the President directly. He learned of the 18 minute gap on November 14 during discussions with J. Fred Buzhardt.
