Hotel rate curb end near eyed by OPA leaders
Washington December reports that ceilings on hotel rates will be lifted soon while dwelling rents stay under control until Congress convenes in January. OPA asks hotels to classify themselves as transient, residential, or motor courts, amid questions about permanent residents in transient hotels and how to handle them. The hotel control extension expires March 31 1947 and any further ceilings require congressional action. Senator Hawkes plans to push a bill for limited increases or removal of ceilings, with a three stage 15 percent rise if ceilings persist beyond the expiration date.
