Samuels' Checks Used for Evidence at Tax Trial
Prosecutors used cashed and deposited checks from Frost National Bank and other institutions to argue Samuels evaded income taxes from 1958 to 1962. Custodians testified from bank records, with witnesses detailing cash payments to Samuels for a boat, trailer, and Friedrich air conditioner. The defense contends joint income for the period was $31,000, while officials claim higher, unreported figures. The trial recessed until Monday as Internal Revenue agents prepare further testimony.
