San Antonio river crossings of old days described
In a reminiscence by E and Cervantes of San Antonio readers learn how the city’s river crossings differed in earlier times. Four foot bridges and a suspension span existed downtown along with wagon and yard crossings. A foot barrier by Ursuline Convent washed out with floods, and Houston Street’s wooden bridge gave way to a robust iron bridge. Drivers faced warnings to walk horses across as new bridges were installed.
