San Antonio VA Hospital Plan Discussed by Delegation
No congressmen paid a brief visit to San Antonio's new medical facilities on Friday but did not speak to reporters. U S Reps Teague and Fisher discussed the proposed Veterans Administration Hospital with local officials as they departed the county hospital. Dean Pannill said cooperation with UT Medical School and county hospital was promised to tie the VA faculty to the new medical complex. The 750 bed VA facility is planned on a 32 acre site in the South Texas Medical Center with land donated by the San Antonio Medical Foundation. Congress has allocated about 15 million so far for planning and about 20 percent of the plans are complete. Officials anticipate construction funding in 1969, with plans completed in fall 1969 and construction starting January 1970, taking about three years. The site sits west of the new county hospital.
