Texas Adopts Permanent Cash Basis For Year
Austin August 31 The present fiscal year ends tonight and the new year begins tomorrow. State appropriations for the year ending August 31 1917 total about seven million dollars. Department books are closed and new accounts opened. Deficiencies exceed one hundred fifty thousand dollars but most appropriations are fully used. The treasury shows about three million dollars available for immediate use, enough to cover current expenses until the 1916 taxes arrive. Tax collections start September 1, with December and January expected to bring over six million dollars. Additional balance will eliminate any deficiency and Texas may continue under the permanent cash basis.
