Roosevelt Wins Right to Remove Mayor Walker
Albany Aug 30 A New York court ruled Governor Roosevelt may remove Mayor James J Walker without being bound by standard judicial procedures. Justice Elis J Staley held the governor may conduct hearings with the evidence before him and is accountable only to the people and his conscience. The decision states the courts have no power over the governor in this process and outlines limits on due process while affirming removal for cause related to public trust. Walker’s counsel called it a victory for the mayor. Roosevelt declined further comment after reviewing the decision with his lawyers.
