Agnew Seeks 1972 Focus Not 1976 Run
Vice President Spiro Agnew told NBC Meet the Press he prefers to concentrate on 1972 rather than talk of 1976. He attended a Western White House gala with Hollywood figures and said party rule changes could bolster conservative delegate power. He defended his McGovern criticism as misinterpreted and urged calmer rhetoric toward radicals. He also criticized media coverage of the Vietnam War, noting emphasis on bombing in North Vietnam over the South’s offensive.

Johnson holds birthday in Texas amid health, silence
Lyndon B. Johnson marked his 64th birthday as health woes kept him from public view. He endorsed the Democrat stepping down from the presidential ticket, while aides declined to reveal his whereabouts or plans. Reports note his heart attack in April and recent hospital visit, with signs he remains reclusive at his Texas ranch and only speaks with family. Mary Rather and Tom Johnson provide little clarity on activities. The public's knowledge rests on sparse, guarded statements and speculation.
