Ellsworth Vines was cleared of all professional status charges by the United States Lawn Tennis Association amateur rules committee. The California star, who faces the Forest Hills national singles title defense next month, was found not to have violated amateur rules. The committee said there was no basis for charges, noting he discussed possible professional activity but never formed an agreement.
