Prohibitionists Form Drive for Pro Speaker in Texas Legislature

Precautionary measures have been taken by the prohibition members of the Thirty-third Legislature to insure the election by the Thirty-fourth Legislature of a pro speaker and the pro members who will be sent back two years hence expect to attend to this matter. A statement from the leading pros outlines a plan to secure a speaker aligned with prohibition in the next House, with an executive committee to maintain organization through adjournment and the 1914 primary elections, while not usurping current members’ rights. The goal is to nominate men who will support the prohibition nominee after the primaries. The group cites past experiences as justification for concerted action among Prohibition members.
