State Faces Deficit As New Year Opens In Texas
Austin August 24. When the new fiscal year starts September 1 the Texas treasury will show about 2 million dollars in cash for general revenue but a deficit is certain as all new year appropriations become available. Large drafts will deplete the general revenue fund by November 1, tax collection begins October 1 and delay until January raises penalties. Tuanctuary collections of about 5 million are not remitted until March, so the deficit likely lasts until February 15.
