Wichita Falls Flood Recedes Amid North Texas Rain

Flood threat eased in Wichita Falls as Holliday creek receded, though rain persisted across north Texas. Lake Wichita rose from upstream influx while the Wichita river showed rising levels but officials expected no trouble. Red Cross stood by and Gainesville reported heavy rain and flooding along Elm and Pecan creeks with cool north temps and hot southern heat.

Weather map predictions show showers across multiple regions

The forecast indicates showers in northern and central Appalachians, Great Lakes, upper Mississippi valley, Gulf coast, central plains, southern Rockies, and along the Pacific coast with cooler conditions in the north and warmer in the middle Atlantic and Tennessee Valley. Chicken Wire Safe Incident Reported at City Intersection

A frantic citizen reported a safe dropped from a speeding truck at N W Twenty fourth Street and Castroville Road. Police and deputies searched the area but found only a rat of chicken wire at the intersection.

Absentee Vote Record Set In Runoff Election

Absentee balloting in the August 26 runoff set an all time record of 724 votes. Ballots mailed and not yet tabulated, plus 628 machine votes and 98 mailed ballots, were reported by election officials as a heavy run of voters on Monday and Tuesday. West side residents contributed much of the turnout.
