One Grand Lodge Only Can Be Chartered in Texas

Austin August 25 The attorney general's office ruled that a second grand lodge of Masons cannot be chartered in Texas to confer three degrees. Judge D A Gregg acting secretary of state and John D Hartman of San Antonio sought approval for a new grand lodge charter under article 713a 1899. The opinion states the law contemplates one grand lodge existing at the time of enactment and prohibits another with jurisdiction over the three symbolic degrees. Acting Secretary Gregg will decline to file the charter.
