Eight Postwar Demands On Soviet Russia
Benjamin De Casseres argues for eight concrete U S conditions for postwar relations with Soviet Russia. He calls for freedom of worship, cessation of propaganda, ending support for pro-tyranny publications, removal of class incitement, establishment of a free ballot, and a return of U S aid if a separate peace with Germany occurs. He insists these steps reflect a real, not idealized, postwar world.

Withholding Tax Sways Debate On Defense Funding
Washington August 22 Professor Harrty L Luts of Princeton urged the Senate Finance Committee to approve an 8 10 percent withholding tax on individual income with no exemptions. He argued it would raise about 7 000 000 000 annually, far above the House revenue estimate of 3 216 700 000. The proposal would tax all income payments at the source including wages salaries interest dividends rents royalties and entrepreneurial withdrawals. Chairman George MD Ga has shown support but cautioned it would be hard to fit into the pending bill.
