May veto appropriation blocks witness pay in Texas
Governor Weinert announced a veto of the $100,000 annual item for paying witnesses in felony cases residing in the county of the prosecution. The move makes the miscellaneous appropriations act effectively inoperative though the witness fees are still owed, with no funds to pay them and a deficiency appropriation likely in the next Legislature.
