Act of Love Killer Convicted in California Serial Case
Werbert Mullin, 24, a former Felton High student, was convicted of two counts of first degree murder and eight counts of second degree murder after a jury found him sane enough to stand trial. He admitted slayings during the three week spree fueled by telepathic messages and the belief that the killings were acts of love to avert a cataclysmic earthquake. Sentencing set for September 18. life imprisonment with no parole possible. Mullin had a history of mental illness and prior psychiatric commitment, and both sides acknowledged his illness but disputed total insanity.
