City and County Reject All Hospital Bids in Tabulation Hope
County and city officials plan to tabulate bids for a new Howard Memorial Hospital building after rejecting all bids opened Friday. Straight bids ranged from 30,000 to 84,000 over the estimate of 225,000 with architects and engineers classifying costs including construction and fees. Alternate bids may lower the total to around 215,000, with decisions due Monday morning.

Historic Pullman car draws eyes in Oilton
A 19th century Pullman car, completed in 1879 and used by President Garfield, stands on a side track in Oilton for ninety days. Now owned by showman Lee Blondin, it attracted an Idaho car inspector who learned its famed history. The car’s brass fittings and French plate glass, with a unique spring mechanism, recall its White House and funeral car use before later exhibitions and wrecking-company ownership.
