Watts Summer Festival calms tensions eight years after riot
In Watts Los Angeles police and National Guardsmen return to supervise a calm festival aimed at offering an alternative to riots. The event, themed A Better Watts a Better World, features many educational booths at Wil Rogers Park and marks a shift from past violence to community outreach after the 1965 unrest that left 33 dead and millions in damage.
