Fatigue Ends Race For New York St John Pilot Lands in Penfield
Exhausted by a long battle against fog and storm, Capt. James A. Mollison, a Scottish aviator, landed his tiny Heart's Content at Pennfield near St. John New Brunswick, completing the first solo flight from Europe to America in aviation history. He rested in Penfield after a grueling 30 hours 20 minutes flight from Portmarnock Ireland, about 2600 miles direct but totaling near 3090 miles with fog cruising. He planned to push on to New York but, too exhausted, sought hospitality and rest before attempting the crossing again tomorrow.
