Chronic Drug Use Cited as Job Safety Hazard by Expert
University psychiatry professor Dr. James F. Maddux told attendees at the Texas Safety Association workshop that intoxication on any day endangers the worker and coworkers. He said chronic drug use stems from emotional disturbance, with hard drug users showing rebellious behavior and tolerance for criticism. Morphine users suffer less impact on skilled movement than others, he noted, while beer remains the most abused drug among blue collar workers. In a separate AP report, Pepay Camacho, 22, was killed when a wheel flew off a truck and shattered her windshield on a Dallas freeway.
