Former Yeggm an Arrested Here For Bogus Check Deal
A 64 year old ex yeggman was arrested after a bogus $500 check drawn on an East Texas bank was cashed at a local teller. Detectives Proudfoot and Street seized the man as he prepared to board a night train to San Antonio. About $250 of the money was recovered, the man had used it to buy a diamond ring and new clothing. He had been well known in police circles for years as a safe cracker until about 15 years ago and had been living in San Antonio most of the time. The scheme involved an unsuspecting business associate who vouched for the check after a death notice and a letter from relatives prompted the deal. The check was recognized as fake an hour after cashing. Formal complaint planned for Wednesday in justice courts.
