Sell CPS to private firm urged by consumer advocate Brenner

Milton Brenner, newly named consumer advocate, urged San Antonio to sell City Public Service to a private company to save money for ratepayers. He pressed Mayor Pro Tern Al Rohde in a Tuesday letter ahead of a 7 p.m. public hearing at San Antonio College. Brenner urged settlement talks in the Coastal States case remain flexible, argued CPS is liable for damages, and proposed using proceeds to benefit consumers while ensuring the buyer is financially responsible and not tied to Coastal States. He called for distributing $8 million held from La-Vaca upon adjudication, phasing out the utility tax, and comparing city bills with Houston Dallas and Fort Worth utilities to justify selling CPS.
