Army Reserves Call Up 9444 Men for Active Duty

Washington reports the army announces a first call up of 9444 officers and doctors from the organized reserve and active duty lists. The group includes 1808 captains and 6054 lieutenants plus 1582 medical dental veterinary officers. Recruits come from six armies across the nation with specific age limits by branch and a target of one third reporting by September 22 and another third by September 29. Officers will undergo physical tests at army posts and may have 21 days to settle private affairs.

Wallace Sees Russia as Real Foe in Korea War

Wallace, in a radio interview from New York, says Russia is the aggressor in Korea and that the United States is effectively at war with the Soviets. He maintains there is still a chance for peace but notes the U.S. has lost initiative and Russia is not interested. He claims the cold war will continue for Russia’s reasons. Wallace also states the U.S. is actually at war with Russia in Korea. Three days earlier he resigned from the Progressive party over its stance on Korea.

Censor Plan Pends on Military News Policy

Washington August 11. An army spokesman said a censorship plan for U S and Far East use is under consideration and security measures revised. He praised press cooperation but urged restraint to block enemy intelligence. Navy and air force joined the appeal to media not to publish troop movements. In Laramie wages in 1888 showed brakemen earning 60 to 75 dollars monthly and conductors 75 to 100.

Mustangs Rip Foe at Pohang

U S fighter pilots strafed North Korean Reds near Pohang on the east coast, with additional strikes from Yongdok to Inchon and Seoul and a direct hit on a bridge at Seoul. Three downed pilots were rescued by helicopters as navy and air force units reported heavy enemy tolls and substantial bomb damage to factories, warehouses, and oil refineries in North and South Korea.
