Bridges Cages Hag Officer On Grand Bridges Case

In San Francisco Aug 8 a second adverse witness in Bridges deportation hearings testified after Harper Krawles accused defense tapes of being stolen from his files. Capt John J Keegan of Portland Oregon testified amid repeated references to a planted phonograph recording in a Portland hotel room. Bridges, a West Coast labor leader, faces deportation as an alleged alien member aiding violent overthrow. Defense questioned Keegan and sought to learn how the tapes were obtained while Stanley Doyle loomed as a possible witness and Carlo contended over long distance terms to testify.

New Action Granted in 2672 Libel Suit

Mrs Liggett won a Supreme court order allowing two new actions to collect a 2672 judgment against the Daily Worker for an article she said defamed her husband, a Minneapolis editor. The paper later assigned its assets. Editor Clarene Hathaway was released on bail after jail for nonpayment.

American Governor Candidate Slain in Cotabato Case

Patricia Gamlt and Urbane Ore were convicted in Cotabato province for the December murder of James Fugate, a former governor of Subi province. The court imposed life terms on both defendants. Fugate, an American, was working at a mission station near Uor at the time of the crime.

In Clover on a warm August day a boy fell about 55 feet into a water-filled well. A friend called for help and, when rescuers arrived, the boy was found halfway up the well wall with a pump rod snagged, safe but shaken.

Ptomaine Poisoning Sends Two Women to Hospital

Two women believed to have contracted ptomaine poisoning after eating on Wednesday were hospitalized at Revert B. Green hospital in TrevieGms. Carl Pierce, 35, and Ethel Freemsap, 24, both of 239 Crosby Street, were reported in serious condition by attendants.

Sid Franklin the Byosilsnyi boy arrives in San Antonio with two fighting bulls and five banderillos for a New York World's Fair exhibit. Two-Gun Woman Halts Jail Break at Pryor Jail

Mrs. Ethel McCracken, 46, fought off three escapees at Pryor County Jail after her husband Claude was threatened. Jake Gook was shot in the leg, Willie Murphy fled, and George Casey was recaptured by bystanders. McCracken retrieved guns, fired to block the door, and helped capture Casey.

Swimmers Help Catch Park Auto Prowler

San Pedro park swimmers aided police Wednesday in catching an alleged car prowler. The suspect allegedly tampered with a nearby auto owned by Dalton Blancett of 2002 Seal Street, with watches and a ring reported stolen. Officers recovered items and took a 28 year old Mexican into custody.
