Grain Trader Crawford Seeks Credit Plan After Market Crash
Dr BE Crawford, a small-statured former physician and grain operator, seeks a creditor meeting in New York to present a plan to settle about 2,000,000 in claims and avert bankruptcy after the Chicago Board of Trade crash. Attorney Hiram C Todd says the plan caps obligations via a percentage-based settlement, with 50 percent creditor consent needed. Crawford’s fortune, once rumored at 25 million in paper profits, evaporated when rye prices plunged last July, ending his trading career and prompting a Board of Trade suspension.
