Martha Beall Becomes Noted Actress From Pine Bluff
Martha Beall, born September 2, 1918 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, rose from a lonely childhood to study drama at Stephens College of Columbia Missouri and to become known as Martha Mitchell in Washington. She credited early piano lessons and a strong nurse figure for shaping her, and her education included elocution and church singing. Her mother encouraged opera aspirations, while Beall eventually pursued acting, influenced by drama teacher Mrs Adams though her mother initially resisted.
