R T Walker Jr 23 a Palacios airport employee's son was killed when his plane crashed while attempting to land at Palacios airport yesterday.
Eight wounded prisoners flown in from Pan Mun Jom arrive at a village in Korea where they receive hospital care and a big welcome from Allied leaders including Gen Maxwell Taylor and John Foster Dulles. They recall indoctrination and the long captivity after being captured during fighting in 1952.
USTON August 5. Private William EF Curtis 23 and his 22 year old wife will honor the first four days of August as special anniversaries. Aug 1 is her birthday, Aug 2 his birthday, Aug 3 their wedding anniversary, and Aug 4 his release as a prisoner of war from Korea.
An Army report recalls a Turkish prisoner among the first batch freed by the Eighth Army. The man walked away in only his undershorts, refusing a Chinese issue blue padded uniform, saying he would rather go naked. General Maxwell D. Taylor questioned him about the missing attire.
The Raymondville family learns Sgt Jesse H. Bingham 27 will return from area service in a few weeks as part of the first American prisoners released to Freedom Village. Bingham wounded twice and held over 27 months, plans to meet kin in San Antonio before a Raymondville reunion.
Sterling Bingham, 23, a former staff sergeant who endured the Bataan death march and later fought in Korea, is reported as a prisoner of Communists before reuniting with family in Brownwood Texas. His brother Jesse, wounded in Japan 1950, confirms the family's mixed fates and ongoing military service.
