Tax Dispute Over Downtown Assessments Reaches Standstill
City officials and Houston Street property owners edge toward a compromise on downtown assessment taxes after a special legal counsel team was appointed to collect delinquent taxes. The disagreement centers on a 10 percent assessment gap and potential costs exceeding the sum. The budget relies on 125 general fund tax rate, with back taxes and licenses totaling 400 000 each.
