Inmates Seek New Trials At Federal Court Alcatraz Appeals
Two Alcatraz inmates request new trials in federal court on petitions. Selvie Winfield Wells, sentenced 1988 for robbery in Luling, claims his guilty plea was coerced by district attorney W R Smith Jr. and ex FBI agent F J Lackey. Wells’ 1942 sentence cut to 45 years by the circuit court. Warren Kammer also argues duress for his 1942 eight year term tied to transporting 75000 dollars in stolen jewelry California to Bexar County.
