The 1 year old adventurer Jack Davis and companion Captain Bull Bell survived 18 hours in a lifeboat after their sloop capsized during a tropical disturbance near Port Aransas. They endured thirst and near starvation with no food or water, ultimately rigging a makeshift sail in calm conditions to reach land. The survivor recounted the perilous voyage starting near Corpus Christi and ending near the Texas coast.

Hiram Archibald M. Johnson, 47, son of United States Senator Hiram W. Johnson of California, shot himself at his Hillsborough home early today. The divorced man, who remarried in Chicago after a Reno divorce, left two notes to his mother and father. He was a San Francisco attorney. his brother Hiram Jr. is also a lawyer. The incident prompted an immediate investigation led by Senator Johnson.

President Roosevelt signed the wool textile code establishing a 40 hour work week and minimum wages of 8 a week in the north and 12 in the south. The measure is expected to add about 27,000 workers to employment in the industry.

Two men posing as peace officers broke into a Dallas home and robbed James L. Lewis and his wife, stealing cigarettes valued at 650 dollars and 96 dollars in cash before escaping. It was the second such incident in a year targeting the couple.

Delaney said he advised the O Connell family on July 14 to permit him to select a list from which the abductors could name a negotiator. Delaney picked out 12 men. Birows who handled the 40000 ransom money and bisected the range of O Connell in New York City is helping me pedicv Delaney stated. When asked if they would be booked on a charge he said yes they will eventually be charged. Delaney outlined his theory of origin of the crime. He said Albany conceived the plot and employed an out of town mob to carry it out. If Snyder tipped us off on payment of the ransom we would have nabbed them dead or alive. Delaney agreed to Tal Snyder any attorney who represented Strewi during the ransom negotiations. It was predicted today that OM Chat would be ohana mfartly.
A San Antonio report notes 196 workers affected by the national recovery plan of shorter hours and higher pay as 441 major employers surrender certificates. The postmaster reports progress, with blue eagle signs to denote cooperation, and estimates show employment rising by about 30 to 40 percent at some firms while many workers will see wages jump to at least 14 dollars weekly.
