Flier Leaves Flaming Plane Near Castroville
Two officers at the AAP Military Training center were treated at the AAF Regional hospital for burns from a plane flight from Kelly field. Second Lt. David B Van Pelt of Lomita and 1st Lt. Matthew Won of Hondo were aboard an AT 6 near Castroville when the plane caught fire. Van Pelt jumped to safety, while Wilson attempted to return the plane to Kelly field, suffering facial and hand burns. Van Pelt sustained ankle burns and abrasions.
