Tragedy Ties Social Rivalry to Double Death in Laguna Beach

In a Laguna Beach case a jealous pair of women entwined with Adele Hitchie and Guy Bates Post played out a fatal sequence. Lorie Murray Palmer, painter and former wife of Dr. Clinton Futter Walter, was killed and Adele Hitchie committed suicide after a heated social feud. Autopsy shows Palmer shot twice with a final fatal act by Post. Police allege jealousy over social prestige fueled the tragedy. Palmer, 24, and Hitchie were close friends amid an artists colony. Local authorities outlined a disturbed chain of events including a phone call urging Mrs Morrison to hurry to Laguna Beach. The coroner’s inquest pointed to Hitchie’s responsibility for both deaths. The two women’s intertwined lives and alleged motives emerged as investigators reconstructed the scene.
