Mrs Floyd McGown backs a San Antonio effort to train women in stenography to free men for military service. An enrollment office opens, with courses in English and Spanish. Dr Charles Venable and Colonel Malvern-Hill Barnum endorse the plan, arguing women can occupy civil life roles and release men for duty. Lieutenant Colonel Merritte W. Ireland also lauds the initiative, noting women must be prepared for broader support beyond nursing.
