St Marys Street Extension Set for City Council Approval
After a Tuesday conference with Mayor Brown, Alderman Lambert will present ordinances for extending St Marys street north and south at the next council meeting. The only obstacle is a building on Commerce street slated for teardown to extend the southward stretch. The citizens committee, led by Fred W Cook and L J Hart, suggests delaying demolition until lease expiry or invalidation, allowing a 22 foot obstruction while traffic diverts around the east side. The lessee seeks 3500 dollars, deemed excessive by the committee, which will not advise a settlement at that amount. Northern extension is ready, having been fully acquired from Ursuline Academy. The property will be turned over to the city at cost from three years ago.
