Withdrawal Urged By Joe Carroll Rising Senate Hopeful
Joe Carroll Sanders, a Democratic U S Senate candidate, urged Republican Jon Tower to withdraw his nomination for the Senate seat. Sanders told reporters in San Antonio that the attorney general must be above reproach, while Nixon’s administration could be shadowed by any controversy. Sanders reiterated his stance on crime and government efficiency, arguing for economic restraint and state road improvements near the North Freeway. He warned that the Justice Department’s actions could affect public trust and called for careful handling of the nomination and related issues as the June session approaches.

Finck Returns Unused Funds to Cut Tax Burden
State Representative Bill Finck disclosed he directed 3000 to the General Fund from his contingent expense fund and had previously returned 5000 in October 1961 and 13000 in November 1971. He urged agencies to rein unused allocations to avoid a June tax bill while noting most legislators receive monthly expense stipends. He also discussed possibly opposing Speaker Mutscher and highlighted other unused state funds amid a tight race for reelection.
