Opposition to federal pay cut sparks San Antonio protest

Local civil and military groups mobilize after reports that a 1.25 million annual pay reduction would hit San Antonio payrolls hard. The San Antonio Federal Employers Association plans to meet with the chamber of commerce to discuss the impact, while a proposed government loan from federal employees' pensions is eyed as an alternative. With 2400 civil service workers in the city and a total payroll around 11.9 million, the cut could amount to about 15 percent of payroll.
