American Sailor Recounts German Raider Noewe Story
In an interview from Hull to Wilhelmshaven an American seaman John Brennan details the German raider Pen Wing’s capture of the Saxon Prince off Ireland, its return to Wilhelmshaven, and the crew’s treatment of prisoners. He portrays the raid’s audacity, the ship’s heavy armament, and the captain Count Dohna-Schlodien, while noting postwar German conditions and American perceptions.
