Bomb throwing by anarchists draws parlor socialists into limelight
New York April 16 Following a bomb at Union Square park the focus shifts to the millionaire socialists led by Robert Hunter and the Stokes family. The pair, linked to settlement work and radical circles, face scrutiny as their lavish East Side and Greenwich Village homes contrast with their professed aims to reform capitalism. Hunter, recently active in public speaking, touring Europe with his wife Rose Pastor Stokes, has urged social reform through education and free speech.

The Cannon That Modernized Japan Advertising Lesson for San Antonio Stores
A 1908 editorial argues that long range advertising replaces personal sales in modern business. It compares Japan’s shift after the Satsuma siege to the need for newspapers to reach distant customers, urging merchants to invest in publicity to defend and grow market share and to avoid being left behind as cities like San Antonio expand.
