Launch Drive for Fair Funds Gains Momentum
Subscriptions to the International Exposition drive passed the 100000 mark as hundreds of workers began canvassing the city. About 400 people gathered at exposition headquarters in the St. Anthony hotel to receive instructions for the campaign with more than 300000 expected to be raised by week’s end. Rivalry between the men and women divisions is noted as plans expand into business and residential districts. Opposition has faded since relocating near East Houston street. General Burke leads the men’s effort with Mrs. J. E. Whe to head the women, and committees target banks lumberyards and major local firms for support.
