Pension Bill Awaits Attention
AUSTIN April 5 UPI A bill to grant Confederate Veteran Walter Williams and his wife a pension of 450 dollars monthly awaits the house subcommittee. The state affairs committee ordered a week of study after Rep J H Jackson of Atlanta urged broader provision for Williams and for 383 widows of Ten who fought for the Confederacy.

Four More Charges Filed Against Giles
Four more felony charges were filed against former Land Commissioner Bascom Giles bringing the total to eight. Identical charges were filed against J Paul Little a Crystal City attorney linked to veterans land deals under investigation. Each faces four counts of theft totaling 377,344 in four Zavala county land transactions last year under the veterans land program. Procter said charges filed without grand jury action, denied there was link to previous charges. Restitution has been made in several suits, Byrd Cattle Co Dallas paid 85,068.15 for a land sale under allegedly fraudulent circumstances. The case brings total civil funds paid into court to 293,000. A new Travis county grand jury was empaneled to continue the veterans land scandal probe.
