Telephone Co Seeks Relief No 5 in Rate Case
The Southwestern Telephone Company filings in federal court for Western District of Texas seek an injunction against the City of San Antonio and authority to raise rates. Judge Duval West signed the summons with a hearing set for 10 a.m. Wednesday. The company argues the city ordinance violates the 14th Amendment and federal and state constitutions by taking property without due process while the city defends its measures and contends the suit may delay rate changes.

Morris in Class 1A draft ruling affects packing firm head
Nelson Morris of Morris and Co. was placed in Class 1A after claiming exemption as essential to a vital industry. The draft board ruled he left for Washington for a War Department post, showing he was not essential to the Dallas-based business. A federal action seeks to restrain changes while Gates says most patrons accept the new service and the net impact remains limited. Subscribers will be treated equally with no prejudice in service or price changes.
