Washington June 11 The senate defeated a plan to pay upkeep for government owned autos used by Vice President Sherman and Speaker Cannon. An initial House motion for 2500 for Cannon’s automobile expenses was dropped after a conference report removed the two contested items.
Mrs. Keith Trask, a Long Island social figure, heads a group of three society women famed nationwide for fasting seventeen days for health and beauty. Anna Townsend and Marion McKeller, also in the Trask circle, have fasted three days and begun a fourteen day milk diet as their sole nourishment.
Oma Thompson, 16, vanished with a young man in a big red touring car after a church shadowing near Chestnut and Burnett. Rosy cheeks, auburn hair, white dress described by her father Warren Thompson of 722 Chestnut Street as police and neighbors search the city for them. The father believes Oma planned to elope to Oklahoma, and authorities are alerted to track the vehicle.
Testimony at the hearing indicated the nature of the case requires a high bond, threatening Sunday detention for Miss Obert. Prosecutors argued for strict pretrial restraint while defense urged leniency. The judge reserved judgment on whether to set or raise the bond pending further proceedings.
Mrs. Mary Pancoast armed with a repeating shotgun held a white intruder at bay at 203 King William Street. Hendrick Kuust, 48, a laborer, was arrested on vagrancy charges after a failed attempt to steal. the home had electric lights turned on by the family during a late visit.
Thieves broke into the room of Jessie Senter a negro servant at 105 Summit Place on Saturday afternoon and escaped with a jewelry box. Stolen items include a diamond and signet ring a bracelet and other items. Entrance was gained by prying a window during the occupant’s absence. The theft was discovered upon the girl’s return and police notified.
The Albert Sidney Johnston chapter of the U D C offers a $25 prize for a biography of Jefferson Davis to be written by UT history students in the school year ending June 1911. The prize is awarded annually to spur southern history study at the university.
Austin Texas June 11 J L Peeler appointed master in chancery for Union Trust Company of San Antonio in suit by state against the firm. He previously served as a state senator in the last legislature.
Austin Texas June 11. The Young Men's Christian Association and the Young Women's Christian Association at the university hold their annual final reception at Mrs. Helen M. Kirby's home 307 West Fifteenth Street tonight. Many students and alumni were present.
Tobacco magnate Brodie L. Duke, 62, married 22 year old Wylanta Roscheile Duke after a 24 hour flurry of attempts in Jersey City New Jersey amid anticipated family turmoil. The Rev Donald MacLeod refused to perform the ceremony once his prior marriages were known. Relatives from North Carolina arrived late and tension grew as plans moved to depart to avoid reporters.
Judge Tous ton of Logan county district court granted an injunction restraining state officers from moving the capitol location from Guthrie. State Treasurer Menefee was served. Secretary of State Hill Cross located in Oklahoma City and served. All attempts to locate continuing.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, reports a moderate estimate at 2 o'clock showing the capital location vote: Guthrie 40,000 and Shawnee 20,000. Guthrie conceded victory to Oklahoma City.
