In the Sap wreck near Pettus on train No 6 of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass railway James A Ball was killed as his brother R L Ball, injured with a broken leg, aided two trapped men W B Lupe and Lane Taylor before collapse left him unable to continue. Rescue efforts and medical crews followed, with multiple injuries among passengers and bystanders.

Wreck of Texas & Pacific Train Injures Ten Near Mesquite
Westbound Texas and Pacific No. 7 derailed near Mesquite at 7 this morning after a broken rail. Ten passengers were injured, none fatally. The most serious victims included William Flanigan a black man and his two sons, among others from Oklahoma Texas and South Carolina.

The Texas & Pacific depot at Terrell and the Western Union office were burned this morning. Telegraph service is cut off to the town. The loss is about $8000. the depot had been built in 1872.

Instructor Emil Stieler Killed Mistaking Deer Near Comfort
Emil R. Stieler age 25 an instructor at the Marshall Training School in San Antonio was mistaken for a deer and shot dead near his father’s ranch seven miles from Comfort. Lieut Charles L Stevenson Fifteenth U.S. Cavalry fired at about 400 yards causing a fatal wound to the head and heart. The hunting party left San Antonio Wednesday for a deer hunt in the Comfort mountains. The funeral is set for 3 PM in Comfort.

Stacy A Paxson was arrested on charges of impersonating an army officer. He waived examination and was bound over to the federal grand jury convening Monday with bail set at 1000 dollars. The warrant named several witnesses and cited statutorily defined offenses.
