Dallas firebrand General Crane accuses the Texas Senate of hollow pretenses as he writes that W. M. C. Hill is the real author behind claims some legislators are brewery-owned. Houston dispatch reports five dead and two fatally wounded after a boiler blast at Keenan's shingle mill in Conroe. Durban, owner, and Voss Rayburn are named. three unnamed Black workers among the deceased. A boiler fragment wrecked a nearby dwelling, causing additional injuries.
The American schooner Westward owned by A. B. Cochran of New York easily won the Ryde race for the international gold cup. Germania owned by Lieut Krupp Von Bohlen and Halbach trailed five miles behind at the finish in Cowes Isle of Wight on August 8.

Henry Jackson of Atlanta is appointed collector of internal revenue for Georgia, succeeding Henry Rucker the longtime officeholder. Jackson is a prominent social figure and active in the Taft organization in Washington.
Frank Stewart was stabbed by J. McGough proprietor of a livery stable after a dispute over a team. Stewart then beat up his attacker. He is expected to survive the injuries.
Callie Raines, a white woman, died after two hours in a city jail cell where she raved, beat herself, and apparently overdosed on cocaine. Police and doctors conducted autopsy proceedings as officials investigated the death and lack of immediate medical aid.
Edwin Boysen a 27 year old secretary and treasurer of Weiner rice mills in Arkansas died at a Memphis boarding house. Police investigate conflicting stories from Eva Goldberg 20 and her mother about a pistol discharge during cleaning or a playful struggle for the weapon. The incident occurred on Washington avenue where Boysen was staying.
In St Louis Joseph Wendling the Louisville church janitor arrested in San Francisco for Alma Kellner's murder remains jailed awaiting transfer to Louisville. Missouri milliner Cora Munena came to identify him as Henry Jacquemin the man who wooed her in Houston Texas and had urged her to retract prior statements about their acquaintance.
Representative Thad Adams predicts the charter bill will be submitted by Governor Campbell with a ratification clause, with no trouble anticipated in passing. Secretary P Wools of the Commission Government league agrees, saying the governor could submit the measure as soon as Thursday. A conference with Bexar county leaders failed to occur due to senator Real’s absence, but the charter has been sent to the governor and progress is expected shortly.
A dry Sunday in the Texas cotton belt sparked a strong buying surge in New York at the start of the week. August futures rose 26 points, with new crop levels 31 to 32 points above Saturdays close. A Texas expert warned the crop may fall to 3,000,000 bales unless rain relieves the dryness.
The house committee on insurance met with a quorum and reported out substitute bill for bills 7 and 8 the Terrell of Bexar and Cureton fire rating board laws. The substitute is a bi bill measure agreed upon by the authors and said to contain the best features of both.
The speaker expresses confident expectation that the charter bill will be presented in the special session and believes it will pass within ten minutes. He asserts San Antonio will gain what it wants and can advance like other cities that have adopted the modern form of government.
Bascom Thomas claims fraud and disfranchisement in Bexar county to block the rivals. He alleges poll tax abuses and that voters, including Mexicans, were driven to the polls to back Davidson. He vows to sue or challenge the results if needed.
The Texas senate will not take up liquor measures until Friday after adjournment this morning. Delegates and officials from San Antonio and Dallas attend hearings and conventions in Galveston. Austin dispatch reports the Texas House opened with fifty members present and no roll call due to lack of quorum. A sympathy resolution for Walter F. Colquitt and funeral committee appointments were approved, with adjournment set to 10 tomorrow morning. A Navajo petition seeks repeal of the fire rating board law and 1000 copies of a substitute bill were ordered printed. The house also passed a concurrent resolution to withdraw the Lane moving picture.
